Can you actually fit a sofa in a dorm room? My son (Who’s job is Dorm Admin) says you can!

Most of the kids get right in and start making the beds into a loft style bed. This gives them room to have a more comfortable seating arrangement for a dorm room chair or sofa.

While the gals seem to favor a soft, plush chair to curl up in.. the boys want a sofa to sit facing the TV for gaming or watching video.

Something new has jumped up in popularity for dorm room chair… and it’s very manly because it’s black!

It’s an FULL Size Inflatable Sofa Bed (or couch). What is so cool is it transforms into a bed.

The product description says it all:

Depending on the chambers you inflate and the configuration, the Smart Air Beds 5 x 1 Inflatable Sofa Bed can be:

* An air bed that measures 79″ x 54″ x 8″, perfect for two people as a short term sleeping solution
* A raised air bed that measures 40″ x 54″ x 16″, great for a temporary bed for a small child (please provide parental supervision)
* A relaxing lounger – from the air bed position, just inflate the back and arm rests
* A sturdy recliner – take the lounger and flip it over so the arm/back rest is sitting on the ground
* And of course, a spacious two person sofa (54″ wide with ~ 40″ of seating space)

Five uses from one product. The Smart Air Beds 5 x 1 Inflatable Sofa Bed is made of PVC vinyl which is easy to clean or repair should any kind of mishaps occur (comes with a patch kit). I think repairs would be necessary – often… so a patch kit is a great addition!

Also included absolutely FREE with your purchase are a detachable AC pump with three nozzles (made to plug in to US outlets – a $24 value) and a lightweight carry bag to take everything with you (a $4.99 value).

When you are finished using the product, deflation and storage is a snap. Simple release the air through the three quick release valves (most of the air will immediately evacuate), use the deflation port on the AC pump to suck out the remaining air, fold the sofa up, and store it in the carry bag. When it’s all said and done, the item is no bigger than an average gym bag!

I think boys might like this design as well… but the gals really seem to find these two styles of chairs to work best.

The Sphere Chair and the Butterfly Chair are colorful folding dorm room chair styles that work really well.

The Sphere Chair or Dish Chair is popular for looks… it looks really cool with the perfect circle shape. Almost like a large polka-dot. The chair is comfy to curl up with homework, watch a movie or take a nap.

From the reviews – the chair is study and large enough for most adult women. I’m always amazed to find a sturdy dorm room folding chair.

I love that is chair is so soft. Remember that college kids still want to feel like they have a home in a dorm room and soft comfortable spaces will remind them of home.

When more room is needed – fold up this chair and slip it into the closet.

Back in the “day”, when I went to college, my shared dorm room didn’t have room for a new dorm room chair. I never even thought about it… we just spread out on our skinny twin bed and lounged.

Just a few years ago – when my son went off to college, the idea of a dorm room chair was a “desk chair”. He informed me that having something comfortable to watch TV and play video games was important. Go figure… I thought a college dorm room was for study and sleep.

What he wanted was a bean bag chair or an old recliner – even boys in college dorm rooms want a “Man Cave”.

I finally did buy him a reclining camping chair – and I thought I was a cool mom. I really didn’t know exactly what he really needed a separate chair for???

The camping chair idea was pretty lame… in his eyes. It was better than nothing… but I think what he really wanted was a comfortable chairs for dorm rooms that felt a bit like he was sitting at home.

After spending a good bit of time looking over at least 100 dorm rooms (because my son became the dorm admin for a community college)… I can see that choosing a chair is just as personal as choosing the bedding your college bound kid will have to live with for several years.
